Despite busy practices in Tulsa, orthopedic surgeons at Central States Orthopedic Specialists, Inc. (CSOS), devote time each week to treating wartime veterans at Muskogee Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Altogether, the CSOS physicians average about 40 hours a week at the veteran's hospital.

“We feel it's very important to provide care for these people who have served our country so nobly,” says R. Clio Robertson, M.D. “As a result of their wartime service, many of these patients are experiencing ongoing orthopedic and/or joint problems. They need the specialized care we provide and we are very pleased to help them out. I guess you could say this is our special way of supporting our troops.”

The veterans at Muskogee Veterans Affairs Medical Center range from 22-year-olds to those of retirement age. They have served in various U.S. wars, including World War II, the Korean conflict, the Vietnam War and the current Iraqi and Afghanistan conflicts. “The veterans we treat at Muskogee Veterans Affairs Medical Center are extremely grateful for the care they receive,” Dr. Robertson says. “I know I speak for all the CSOS doctors in saying the personal interaction we share with these patients is very gratifying. It's a very enjoyable part of our week and some of the stories we hear are amazing!”

In addition to Dr. Robertson, the other CSOS physicians who treat veterans in Muskogee include: Jeff R. Morris, D.O; Ron S. LaButti, D.O; and Harry E. Livingston, M.D. For the most part, the services provided at Muskogee Veterans Affairs Medical Center by these CSOS orthopedic physicians include outpatient surgeries. If a total joint replacement is warranted, patients are referred to the Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the nearest veteran health care facility equipped for more extensive surgical procedures.
